Our P7 children have been working with Mr. Micahel Carr, Hegarty/Carr Architects, looking at their local area and ways they might improve it. They had to take lots into consideration, including things like safety, pollution, disability access etc. All in all they made a great stab at the work which culminated with a presentation by each group.

Well done to Mrs. Barwise and the children involved and thanks to Michael for his attention, help and support.

Volcanic Eruption in P6!

On Monday March 22nd, Mount McDevitt, once thought to be dormant, erupted without warning in P6. Children could only look on in amazement as tons of lava spewed out of the crater and slid down the side of the volcano, destroying everything in its path!

Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? However, it was only a science experiment in Mrs McDevitt’s class. There were no casualties and everyone got on with the rest of their work afterwards!

 Mrs Barwise’s Class

Bishop Lagan confirmed 37 of our P7 children along with boys and girls from Longtower, Balloughrey and St. Oliver Plunket’s. Congratulations to all the children who participated in the sacrament with a spirit of reverance. Thank you to Mrs Barwise and Mr. McCrossan for all the hard work in preparation for the sacrament. Congratulations to the children who sang in the choir. Your talents added so much to the ceremony. Thanks also to Mrs Higgins for preparing the choir for what was a mammoth task!

Our Credit Union Quiz Team travelled to Letterkenny on Sunday 7th March and came away victorious again. There were 27 schools there from all over Derry and Donegal. The huge crowd witnessed a very competitative quiz with Nazareth House coming out on top by three points, beating Kilmacrennan, last year’s winners by three points.

So we now go forward to represent Derry and the whole Northwest in the national finals in Dublin on April 18th. Well done boys (I always knew boys were smarter than girls!)

Thank you to all the families who travelled to Letterkenny to lend their support.

Practice has been stepped up and the candles are lit!
