Summer School 2010

Once again our summer school proved to be an amazing success. Every year we say this was the best yet and this year probaly was… the best yet.

We had 45 children from p4 to p6 involved in…. football, dance, orienteering, bowling, Wii, sandwich making, zoo visit, canoing, pier jumping, team building, swimming, sandcastle making, paddling, Buncrana Park trip, activity centre, virtual rollercoaster, laser tag. train journey…. I’ve probably left some activities out, but, as you can see we had a very full timetable of events.

Many thanks to the helpers, Mrs. McDevitt, Mrs. O’Donnell, Mrs. Devine, Mrs. Dalzell, Mrs. McDaid, Mrs. Ennis, Miss Harkin and Mr. Nelson. Most thanks must go to the children themselves who were a credit to the schooo and their parents. They were an absolute joy to work with!

The scheme was made possible by Extended Schools funding. Long may it last.

Welcome Back

Wednesday the 1st September arrived and all the little boys and girls with rosy cheeks and flaxen curls and sparkling eyes and teeth like pearls came merrily after ……. well you know what I mean.

School never seems to be right until the children come back so we were all delighted to see them.(Not as delighted as parents who were glad to get rid of them!)

Congratulations to all the parents for turning them out so beautifully. Long may it last. We had a very high attendance on Wednesday and we were even able to get some class photos taken.

Let’s hope this year brings loads of success and happiness for all the children. We look forward to working with our parents and teh wider school community. Have a good one.

Our prize-giving ceremony took place on Friday 25th. We were entertained by our orchestra and our school choir before the proceedings got under way. This year saw the first set of Academic awards with the specially commissioned school badges in English, Maths, I.C.T. and Endeavour. We also had special excellence badges for children who had had exceptional success during the year. In addition this was the first year we presented our St. Cecilia’s Award for Performing Arts.

Well done to all the prizewinners and for those who were not successful perhaps they will redouble their efforts next year.

June 5th was a glorious day weather wise but it also was gloriuos because our P4 children made their First Holy Communion. The church was packed with family members as Fr. Mongan celebrated the mass. The children were so beautiful and their behaviour was so dignified and respectfuil. They were a credit to their families and to Mrs. McGill and Mr. McDowell who had put in so much work in preparation. The chapel was looking magnificent, as usual. Many thanks to the Sisters of Nazareth for their continued hospitality.

P3 parents also hosted a “feast” afterwards in the canteen and not forgetting Carmel and David at the ice-cream machine in teh playground! All in all, a wonderful day!

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as M&M productions brought their production of Charlotte’s Web to our school. All classes from P1 to P7 were enthralled by the performance, the P6s especially so, as this is their class novel.

P1 and P2 classes had a special treat recently when international film star, Genevieve the Goat, visited them to reinforce healthy eating habits. The were loads of fruits and vegetables abound and the children showed great understanding of the topic. Genevieve was well pleased. She thinks Nazareth House children are the BEST!!! No Kidding!
