Our prize-giving ceremony took place on Friday 25th. We were entertained by our orchestra and our school choir before the proceedings got under way. This year saw the first set of Academic awards with the specially commissioned school badges in English, Maths, I.C.T. and Endeavour. We also had special excellence badges for children who had had exceptional success during the year. In addition this was the first year we presented our St. Cecilia’s Award for Performing Arts.

Well done to all the prizewinners and for those who were not successful perhaps they will redouble their efforts next year.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as M&M productions brought their production of Charlotte’s Web to our school. All classes from P1 to P7 were enthralled by the performance, the P6s especially so, as this is their class novel.

In the early hours of Sunday 18th April our school quiz team travelled to Dublin to take part in the All Ireland Final of the Credit Union Quiz. This is the second time in 17 years that we have made it through to the final.

What an occasion it was! Credit must go to the Credit Union for the fantastic organisation that went in to this great showcase. It was a wonderful experience for the children.

The standard was exceptionally high, and,  we made a very slow start, scoring only one point in the first round. Nevertheless, the boys knuckled down and slowly but surely they began to claw back the deficit. In the end they came up short finishing 28th overall… an indication of the fantastic standard ‘cos this team are good!!!!

Thanks must go to the local Derry Credit Union, especially, Sean Mullan and Aidan Gallagher, for all their encouragement, support and generosity. (any chance of a loan?)

As usual we had our trusty band of supporters who made the long journey to support (embarass) their children. It was a most enjoyable day out.

And not to forget the boys who took part. They can be very proud of their achievements this year. There were over 25000 children who took part in this competition in all the heats throughout the country. So to achieve what they have is commendable. We know how much effort they put into the competiton. Well done. What really impressed was how they dealt with not winniing. There was a great determination that .. “next time… we’ll be better. ” We even overheard comments hoping that there will be quiz teams in their next schools.

And remember how well you finished the quiz … 100% in the final round!

The boys were…

Shea Edwards, Connor Hegarty, Colm McGee, Cathal Roarty…… & Snot(Mascot)

School Canteen

We have recently changed over to Pennyburn Kitchen to supply our school dinners. The format of the dinners are a little different from before so it may take a bit of time for the children to get used to the choice options.

We will try to post the monthly rota for dinners each month on this site, but that is proving difficult at present. We will send the rota home by hardcopy or through email to those parents who have given us their address.

Sio far we are very happy with the quality and quantity of the dinners. Each day should have a choice of 2 dinners or soup and sandwiches,  with all the trimmings and a desert.

Please let us know yur opinions on the meals. You can see a sample of some of the dinners so far in the gallery. I’m starving just looking at them!

Caoimhe with her award.

Congratulations to Caoimhe Deeney who won the credit Union’s Bravery Award. Caimhe won the award for the calm, cool headed way she dealt with an emergency at home. She’s a handy one to have about the place!
